Job Summary

Under supervision, facilitate interactive video conferencing (IVC) courses and meetings; provide excellent customer service to students, faculty, and visitors; and provide general office support.

This is a part-time, non-benefitted position. This position requires flexible, non-standard working hours, as schedule will vary by academic semester. Schedule, including number of hours per week, is subject to change based on business need. A sample weekly schedule during an academic semester is below:

Monday 4:00 PM – 10:00 PM

Tuesday 4:00 PM – 7:15 PM

Wednesday 4:00 PM – 8:30 PM

This position is located at the University of Utah’s Graduate Center at St. George: 1071 East 100 South, Suite A100, St. George, Utah.


1. Works under the direction of St. George Graduate Center staff and with University of Utah Technology and Learning Technologies (TLT) to ensure interactive video conferencing (IVC) equipment works properly throughout transmission. Troubleshoots problems.

2. Operates and monitorsIVCequipment for courses and/or meetings including working inIVCmanagement software and communicating with technicians in distant sites.

3. Acts as first point of contact forIVCequipment and connection troubleshooting.

4. Prepares and maintains classrooms for classes and events (arranging seating, cleaning white boards, occasionally wipes tables and empties garbage, etc.) and sets up equipment for students and/or instructors as needed.

5. Provides faculty and student support in the following duties:

a. Distributes course materials.

b. Collects and submits student work.

c. Proctors exams.

d. Assists with wireless access, printing, copying, scanning, and AV equipment and connections

6. Straightens up classrooms at the end of class and makes sure equipment has been turned off.

7. Monitors, edits, and publishes recordings of classes and events.

8. Opens or locks up facility, including disarming and arming the security system.

9. Serves as backup to other Graduate Center staff in the following duties:

a. Greets visitors and communicates with customers, employees and other individuals to answer questions, disseminate or explain information and address complaints.

b. Answers telephones, gives information to callers, takes messages or transfers calls to appropriate individuals.

c. Receives and logs student print/copy deposits.

10. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a high school diploma or equivalency. A commitment to provide excellent customer service and one-year customer service experience required. A working knowledge of computers and audiovisual (AV) equipment required. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills.

The incumbent must be able to prioritize requests and be able to handle concerns of impatient or dissatisfied customers.
