Job Summary

The University of Utah Sandy Center is looking for savvy, outgoing people to act as Substitute Office Assistants. This is a part-time, non-benefited position.

This position requires working to fill in when needed while employees are on vacation or sick. We have a Day Shift: Monday – Thursday from 8:00am to 3:30pm; an Evening Shift: Monday – Thursday from 3:00pm to 10:00pm; and a Weekend Shift: Friday from 8:30am to 2:30pm and Saturday from 8:30am to 1:30pm. You would be contacted weeks/months in advance to fill in for vacations. You will be notified to fill in for a sick employee a day or more, if possible, in advance. You can choose the Day Shift, Evening Shift, Weekend Shift, or all Shifts.

The position is located at the University of Utah Sandy Center located at 10011 Centennial Parkway, Suite 100, Sandy, UT 84070.


Opening Procedures:

- Enter building and turn off security alarm and unlock front door

- Open classrooms, testing room, and computer lab

- Set up classrooms for instructors’ needs and clean furniture

- Retrieve telephone and email messages and return calls/emails


- Assist students and instructors with printing, copying, audio/video equipment, and answering questions regarding the university via telephone, email, or in-person

- Process payments for office supplies, proctoring, and other services

- Administer/Proctor Exams and Make-up Exams for University of Utah students and students from other schools, colleges, and universities

- Distribute materials to instructor and staff. Hang up posters and resupply catalog rack

- Other duties as assigned

Closing Procedures:

- Check all classrooms, readjust seating, erase whiteboards, clean desks/chairs, resupply markers, readjust blinds, secure remote controls and audio/visual equipment

- Turn off lights and lock rooms

- Secure building by locking exterior doors and setting alarm system

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalency required. One year full-time customer service experience or equivalency, demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills also required.

- AV/Zoom monitoring and troubleshooting experience

- Computer skills including word processing, presentation, creative, and spreadsheet software experience

- Demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills
