Job Summary

Red Butte Garden is seeking a part-time Youth and Family Programs Assistant. Under the direction of the Youth Education Coordinator and the Youth & Family Programs Manager, the Youth & Family Programs Assistant helps plan, develop, and coordinate Youth & Family Programs that advance Red Butte Garden’s mission to connect people with plants and the beauty of living landscapes.

Responsibilities

•Assist with planning, developing, and coordinating Red Butte Garden’s Youth & Family Programs including Arbor Day, campouts, Garden Adventures, Lil’ Buds preschool classes, Family Nights, Summer Camps, Garden After Dark, Winter Solstice, and more

•Developing, writing, and evaluating program curricula exploring the connections between plants, the natural world, andSTEAM-based subjects

•Creating and writing interpretive content for classes, festivals, and special events

•Working a variety of on- and off-site programs including classes, festivals, and special events

•Assist with daily operations by maintaining supplies, facilities, and equipment

•Provide direction, leadership, and feedback to support staff, including seasonal education staff, volunteers, and interns

•Perform any other departmental duties as directed by the Youth & Family Programs Manager and the Youth Education Coordinator.

Minimum Qualifications

This is an entry-level position. Training will be provided. Must demonstrate an interest in learning about child development and guidance; a willingness to take direction from the assigned teacher; willing to obtain a food handlers permit, TB test, Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) background check, first aid training are required. Demonstrated human relation and effective human relations skills are also required.

•An interest in plants demonstrated either by education or previous employment

•Experience working in an outdoor setting

•Enthusiasm, sense of humor, and patience

•Dependable and punctual
