Job Summary

TheUSTARCenter for Genetic Discovery (http://ucgd.genetics.utah.edu) at the University of Utah seeks a Senior Web Developer to create and integrate database and web applications to facilitate genomic data access, sharing, and collaborative interactions for large-scale genomics projects. The successful candidate will join a growing team of scientists and software developers working to integrate computational genomics into health care. Our team analyzes genome sequences from projects across a broad range of inherited disorders, including lung and heart disease, familial cancers, inflammatory and immune conditions, metabolic disease, and neurological conditions. We also partner with life science and technology companies to develop novel software tools, diagnostics, and precision therapies based on our research.

We are looking for a highly motivated full-stack web developer familiar with standard genomics tools and data sources and excellent collaboration and communication abilities. You will be a part of a vibrant and collaborative community of computational, clinical and experimental scientists. The institute is set on the Wasatch front in Salt Lake City and provides a unique recreational and geographical landscape that attracts a very diverse and productive scientific community.

Responsibilities

•Develop new web applications to facilitate genomic data sharing, database access and project management for theUSTARCenter for Genetic Discovery (UCGD) at University of Utah.

•Use RESTful APIs to integrate our web applications with external applications such as Trello,JIRAand GitHub.

•Oversee development and maintenance of anSQLdatabase to manage projects and data within theUCGD.

•Work collaboratively with otherUCGDdevelopers to integrate theUCGDweb applications with existing data analysis pipelines

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a bachelor’s degree in a related area or equivalency and 3-5 years of experience in the field or in a related area.

Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.

Preferences

•Previous experience with medical genomics data.

•Experience withSQLdatabase management systems, especially MySQL and/or Postgres.

•Understanding of issues and solutions related to Internet security especially as related to human genomic datasets.

•Experience with Javascript client and server side frameworks (e.g. Angular, React, Vue, Node.js).

•Prior experience with large-scale genomic data management and project management systems.

•Collaborative – able to work interactively on projects with a variety of researchers, software developers, and medical professionals to develop web tools that will enable discovery of disease-causing genetic variants

•Articulate – able to discuss goals, strategies, and progress effectively with clinical, research and technical teams
