Job Summary

The University of Utah’s Center for Medical Innovation ( CMI ) creates a one-stop-shop environment that assists both the novice and experienced innovator through ideation, concept generation, intellectual property, market analysis, prototyping and testing, business plan development, regulatory affairs, and commercialization. The center aims to improve healthcare delivery through innovation and real-world application by developing unique multi-disciplinary education programs in medical device entrepreneurship.

Bench-2-Bedside is the flagship student business/medical/engineering competition run by the CMI .

Lab Innovation Fellow/Intern Description

1) Develop medical device prototypes

2) Provide consulting services in design, fabrication of medical device prototypes, and project management to students, staff, faculty, and community partners of the U of U CMI .

3) Design and implement training programs for students and industry partners to learn how to use lab equipment.

4) Verification testing: write protocols, perform testing, data analysis, and write reports.

5) Perform maintenance on lab equipment.

6) Maintain aspects of quality management system.

Internship Expectations

Part time (15 up to 20 hours) Fall and Spring Semester, Full time (up to 40 hours) in the summer. Internship completes at the end of the summer unless extended by management.

This position is considered Category IIB : Not required on campus and unable to telework. Schedule and hours may not be guaranteed during the University of Utah’s response to COVID -19
