Job Summary

University Ambassadors play a key role in the recruitment and enrollment strategy at the University of Utah. As student staff members in the Office of Admissions, University Ambassadors engage with prospective students and their families through a variety of in-person and virtual activities, including but not limited to, welcoming guests to the Emma Eccles Jones Welcome Center and at various events, daily campus tours, presentations, student panels, online chats, high school visits, and more. University Ambassadors share their personal experiences as students to showcase what it is like to be at the University of Utah..


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a positive representative of the University of Utah.
  • Speak in front of large and small groups of prospective students, parents, and guests about the University of Utah and your experience as a student.
  • Be knowledgeable of various aspects of the University of Utah and the Office of Admissions, including but not limited to, campus facilities, student resources, academic programs, involvement opportunities, and important processes and procedures.


  • Participate in virtual and/or in-person recruitment activities.
  • Use personal laptop, webcam, and other virtual presentation equipment for video conferencing and live chat interactions.
  • Give presentations and speak about your personal student experience about the University of Utah during various recruitment activities. Some travel, including overnight with accommodations, may be involved.
  • Moderate student panel discussions.
  • Assist with event check-in.

Campus Tours:

  • Lead in-person two-hour outdoor campus tours in varying weather conditions.
  • Complete and pass safety training for tour golf cart used for guests with disabilities.
  • Memorize key talking points for each tour stop to provide consistent and accurate campus information.

Front Desk:

  • Staff the front desk to greet guests to the Emma Eccles Jones Welcome Center.
  • Check-in and register tour guests in event management system.
  • Answer front desk telephone and assist callers with varying needs.


  • Potentially travel to off-campus events using personal transportation or traveling with other staff in the office.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications


  • Must be a current University of Utah student.
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service towards all guests entering and calling the Emma Eccles Jones Welcome Center or attending various recruitment events.
  • Commit to a minimum of 12 working hours per week.
  • Maintain a 3.0 cumulative grade point average.
  • Attend mandatory Ambassador trainings each fall and spring semester.

  • Fall 2021: August 16-20

  • Spring 2022: January 7

  • Attend mandatory weekly Ambassador meetings each Wednesday from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m

  • Maintain regular and timely communication in-person, over the phone, and utilizing platforms such as UMail, Microsoft Teams, WhenToWork, and GroupMe with supervisors and peers.
  • Arrive on-time to all scheduled shifts, meetings, and events.
  • Treat fellow Ambassadors, supervisors, and colleagues with respect.
  • Uphold the values and mission of the Office of Admissions and the University of Utah.
  • Manage, review, and approve bi-monthly timecards appropriately.
  • Be proficient in using the computer and software systems utilized by the Office of Admissions.
  • Wear University Ambassador uniform or other approved attire for all shifts and events.
  • Adhere to the University Ambassador policies and procedures handbook.
  • Must be able to work a minimum of one university break per academic year (fall, winter, and/or spring). Work opportunities during the summer months are available.
