Provide individual and small group tutoring to students. Assist students in improving academic achievement by meeting with them on a regular basis to identify learning challenges and improving study skills.
Other assistance may include: reviewing class material, discussing the text, preparing for tests, formulating ideas for papers, and working on solutions to help improve academic skills and abilities.
Tutoring is a supplement to classroom teaching.
Refugees Exploring the Foundations of Undergraduate Education in Science (REFUGES) is a multi-component program aimed at assiting students from refugee communities prepare for higher education, and encouraging them to consider a career inSTEM. TheREFUGESAfter School Program seeks to provide a safe and enjoyable space for students in grades 7-12 to study, and to examine life as aSTEMmajor. While our primary goal is to help our students do well in school, much of our work as afterschool program facilitators involves establishing and maintaining a positive, peer-mentor relationship with each of them.
In addition to tutoring, your responsibilities will include mentorship and supervision of youth between the ages of 12 and 18.
Special Instructions:THISPOSITIONWORKSWITHMINORS. You will be required to complete two criminal background checks: (1) online with the University and (2) in person with the State of Utah.
You must be available duringALLprogram hours to apply.
High School Diploma, or equivalency; demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills are required.
The incumbent will be required to pass a Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) Background check
Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.
Experience working with youth is preferred, but not required.
