Job Summary

Maintains and manages sound and light inventory in Theatre Department spaces. Works with Sound and Lighting faculty to ensure smooth and safe Load-in and Load-out of Department shows. Helps supervise student work study and lab students crews.


· Light board/sound board setup.

· Assist Master Electrician with hang and focus.

· Assist Master Electrician with maintenance of lighting equipment in Meldrom, Babcock, and studio 115 theatres.

· Assist Sound Supervisor with sound system installation / set-up and strike.

- add practical gear on show by show basis, including but not limited to; sound effect speakers, band inputs / lines, microphones, monitor speakers for band

and cast

· Troubleshooting house sound and lighting system and equipment. Including 70 volt monitor system.

· Assist with comms installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance.

· Wireless microphone management and maintenance.

· Maintain booth areas.

· Provide oversight and guidance to student crews.

· Communication and coordination with PTC sound designer / sound supervisor

· Assist Lighting and Sound departments to return lighting and sound systems to original or shared configuration.

· Attend technical rehearsals when Lighting or Sound mentor is unavailable or if either are mentoring another design area, such as Media Design or filming the production.

· Tie in “tails” or make proper connections to company switch for 3 phase motor operation or portable dimming systems (to assist Technical Director or Rigger).

Minimum Qualifications

Two years of full time professional experience in one or all of the above listed skills technical theatrical skills required.

Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.


Some experience in theatrical lighting and/or sound. Department is willing to train. Capable of lifting 60 pounds. Comfortable on ladders and working at height.
