The University of Utah, School of Medicine is seeking a senior Infectious Disease physician for a position as Director of the Global Health and Tropical Medicine Program in the Division of Infectious Diseases as a Tenure track Professor or Associate Professor/ DOQ .
The ideal applicant will have strong research interests and experience in building an academic research program in Global Health and Tropical Medicine. The primary responsibility of the successful candidate will be to develop and coordinate global health research activities with the School of Medicine and University of Utah Health. The position includes the opportunity to coordinate with ongoing clinical global health activities in Ghana, Kenya, Peru, China and India.
The Infectious Diseases Division of the Department of Medicine at the University of Utah consists of 15 faculty and 27 staff members not including clinic staff. The division derives its funding from clinical revenue, a Ryan White federal grant which supports care of indigent populations with HIV , and other federal and non-federal research grants, including NIH / NCI / NIAID funded research in virology, gastrointestinal infections and vaccines.
Our clinical services consist of outpatient clinics, inpatient University consultation and a VA hospital service. There are separate outpatient clinics for General Infectious Diseases, Immunocompromised patients, Travel Medicine and HIV . The Infectious Disease Travel Medicine activities include evaluation and care of returning travelers and supervision of eight nurse-run pre-travel clinics. The division participates in the GeoSentinel and Global TravEpiNet programs.
All faculty participate in the educational mission by taking part in the seminars, didactic lectures, clinical conferences and the fellowship program which accepts three fellows per year. Unique resources available at the University of Utah School of Medicine include the ARUP laboratories, a national clinical reference laboratory and a worldwide leader in innovative laboratory research and development and extensive expertise in human genetics, including the Utah Population Database.
Applicants must be board certified in Infectious Diseases and have previous experience in Global Health and Tropical Medicine. Funding from the Department of Medicine/ Division of Infectious Diseases may include an Endowed Chair in Global Health and Tropical Medicine. Ample resources and a startup package to support faculty recruitment and development of a multi-Departmental and multi-disciplinary Global Medicine Program will be provided to the successful candidate.
