Job Summary

Be part of a team dedicated to supporting Huntsman Cancer Institute, an NCI -designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, to maximize its potential, excellence, and trajectory toward future goals.

This position will report to the Director of Research Development, Huntsman Cancer Institute ( HCI ).

This position is considered Category IIA : Not required on campus and has the ability to telework remotely for the duration of the University of Utah’s response to COVID -19. An employee hired into this role will be responsible for providing space, telephone, printing, networking and/or internet capabilities at the telecommute location and agree to the terms of the University of Utah campus and Health Academics COVID -19 Telecommuting Agreement.



• Provide writing and editorial review of scientific grants and other scientific narratives

• Participate as part of a team in development of multi-project grant applications.

• Maintain high standards for written work, with the goal to produce top-quality products that meet or exceed the guidelines and objectives of funding agencies.

• Provide detailed copy editing of written narratives, with strong attention to grammar, formatting, and style.

• Aid in the development of institutional grant proposals by participating as a member of researcher teams.

• Develop and maintain an awareness of HCI’s strategic goals and accomplishments.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a bachelor’s degree in a related area or equivalency and 4-6 years of experience in the field or in a related area.


•Advanced degree in a life science (PhD, MD, MS), or related/equivalent area; two years of progressively more responsible scientific and/or writing/editorial experience.

•Understanding of scientific funding mechanisms and grant application processes a plus.

•Expertise with office and writing software (Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, EndNote).

•Basic graphics skills (Adobe Illustrator, InDesign) a plus.
