Job Summary

The Office of the Associate Vice President for Research is a dynamic and high functioning team environment, seeking a Strategic Project Manager to serve as the primary lead for implementation oversight for the Research Mission Strategic Plan. This position will assist in evaluating current and proposed systems and projects and recommend changes when necessary. This position will be responsible for coordination, tracking, reporting, and other associated project management for a complex and dynamic strategic plan, encompassing many varied stakeholders from across U of U Health. The ideal candidate must possess strong interpersonal skills, exceptional organizational skills, and be disciplined in task management.

This position is considered Category IIA : Not required on campus and has the ability to telework remotely for the duration of the University of Utah’s response to COVID -19. An employee hired into this role will be responsible for providing space, telephone, printing, networking and/or internet capabilities at the telecommute location and agree to the terms of the University of Utah campus and Health Academics COVID -19 Telecommuting Agreement.

Responsibilities

1. Works with organizational leadership to coordinate the implementation of 13 subsections of the research strategy. This includes task management, scheduling of meetings, document revision, and performance tracking within a complex framework.

2. Works closely with faculty and institutional leadership to refine and report on the outcomes of the strategy. Tracks major strategy milestones and routinely reports to Unit leadership regarding progress, problems, and needs.

3. Represents Unit leadership at organizational strategy meetings. Works to ensure alignment of Research mission strategy with other University missions.

4. Develops and implements communication platforms to update the research community on progress and plans.

5. Facilitates cooperative and collaborative community and institutional relationships.

6. Assists in the development of strategic plans for subunits related to the Office of the Associate Vice President for Research.

7. Assists in other project management and development tasks as needed within the Office of the Associate Vice President for Research.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related area or equivalency (2 years related work experience may be substituted for 1 year of education). Four to six years of progressively more responsible management experience. Background knowledge of hiring department’s area of specialization in order to analyze, plan and draw conclusions for recommendations to superiors. Demonstrated leadership skills in planning and directing employees and processes in order to effectively monitor and develop subordinates and to ensure the smooth operation of department. Completion of provided supervisory training within one year of employment may be required. Master’s degree in a related area may be preferred.
