Job Summary

Performs varied support functions, including gathering and contributing information or materials for research projects.

This position is considered Category IIA : Not required on campus and has the ability to telework remotely for the duration of the University of Utah’s response to COVID -19. An employee hired into this role will be responsible for providing space, telephone, printing, networking and/or internet capabilities at the telecommute location and agree to the terms of the University of Utah campus and Health Academics COVID -19 Telecommuting Agreement.

Responsibilities

Compiles data from a variety of sources including interviews, literature sources, and medical and genealogical records; enters information into the department’s computer system. Assists PI’s, Research Associate’s, Post-doctoral fellows, etc. in the preparation of manuscripts and presentation materials by creating slides, charts, graphs and handouts. Maintains up-to-date files and records of research data. Searches sources such as reference works, documents, statistical records, etc. and evaluates applicability of collected data to research subject. May draft correspondence to answer inquiries and respond to requests from outside agencies about specific projects. May edit research papers, project reports, and publication materials; may make arrangements for the printing and graphic art requirements for printed materials. May maintain an internal library on project information resources and data collected. Performs quality control through path audits in order to resolve discrepancies and overlaps with data. Schedules appointments, visits, and meetings.

Minimum Qualifications

One year research experience or equivalency; demonstrated organizational and communication skills; and a commitment to provide excellent customer service required. An understanding of research protocols and procedures preferred.

Essential Functions

1. Oversee, assess and ensure participant safety and strict protocol implementation/adherence; oversee compliance with GCP guidelines, federal regulations, institutional policies and procedures, and internal SOPs.

2. Prepare, submit and maintain IRB , CIRB , CTR , FDA , NCI , NIH , NSF and/or other regulatory documents and research correspondence

3. Perform chart abstraction and review, medical record validation and identification of clinical characteristics.

4. Determine subject population availability, develop recruitment, informed consents and screening materials; help develop survey and study data collection instruments

5. Work with data managers to help design, develop and test appropriate informatics tools to meet study data.

6. Assists research employees in preparing manuscripts and presentation materials by creating slides, charts, graphs and handouts.

7. Searches sources such as reference works, documents, statistical records and evaluates applicability of collected data to research subject.

8. Edits research papers, project reports and publication materials.

Problem Solving

When compiling information from various sources, particularly interviews, the incumbent must evaluate what is critical to the goals of the study and have the ability to elicit cooperation from participants. The incumbent must be aware of the various stages during the research project so he/she can give accurate information to outside sources as well as assist in keeping the project on schedule. The employee must be able to multi-task with varied assignments and be aware of resources needed to accomplish publishing/printing objectives.
