Job Summary

Responsible for the collecting, processing and shipping all of the research samples for the clinical trials managed by Huntsman Cancer Institute Clinical Trials Office. The incumbent will be familiar with a variety of research laboratory concepts, practices, and procedures.


1.Assist with mentoring and training new staff.

2.Create educational, training and mentoring content.

3.Trains new employees; re-training current employees where needed; mentoring and continuing education/certification for current employees.

4.Review trials forFARand attendFARmeetings.

5.Create and update Standard Operating Procedures and Work Practice Documents.

6.Work closely with lab manager to ensure all lab personnel are adhering to all applicableCTO,HCIand University of Utah policies, procedures and work practice documents.

7.Routinely plan and implement ideas of process improvements and share them with management and leadership.

8.Work with Lab Manager to implement and maintain safe laboratory practices.

9.Ability to take on more complex primary trial assignments and related duties.

10.OverseesCTO-SP inbox and ensures that all queries, requests and notifications are addressed in a timely manner.

11.Follows procedures and work practices related to collection, processing, storage and shipment of research specimens as defined in lab manuals, protocols and study-specific reference materials.

12.Responsible for validation of SP requests and preparation of kits and other materials for specimen collections per standard lab practices.

13.Ensures specimen integrity through appropriate handling and accurate labeling of specimens, related requisitions and documentation.

14.Manages time and workload efficiently and prioritizes workflow effectively; able to assess workload and delegates responsibilities to other team members when appropriate.

15.Communicates & collaborates effectively with all groups within theCTO, Sponsors and Clinic/Hospital Staff.

16.Able to work independently; demonstrates adequate problem-solving skills and awareness of available resources.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate scientific discipline or equivalency, plus four years of related full-time laboratory experience required. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills also required.
