Sponsored Projects Grant and Contract Officers provide and coordinate centralized administrative and technical guidance and support to University of Utah faculty and staff seeking extramural financial support for research, public service, clinic trials and sponsored institutional projects. Successful candidate will facilitate intellectual property terms and conditions and coordinate with University intellectual property office.
1.Provides expert advice and guidance on research proposals, contracts, awards and administrative processes.
2.Drafts, interprets and negotiates contract terms and conditions with sponsoring entities for clinical trials, proposals, awards, cooperative agreements and sub-contracts.
3.Assists faculty and staff in preparation of competitive and non-competitive grants and contract proposals.
4.Reviews and interprets sponsoring agency submission and expenditure requirements.
5.Reviews and finalizes proposals and contracts for submission to sponsoring entities.
6.Analyzes proposals, awards and agreements for compliance and consistency with federals and state laws and regulations, University policy and practice, research compliance restrictions and guidelines, financial and academic requirements, and agency policies and procedures.
7.Establishes & facilitates award management though electronic systems.
8.Assists in solving problems related to the administration of awards.
9.Coordinates interaction between other research administration offices.
10.Manages data via database.
11.Provides formal and informal training to faculty and staff.
This position provides support in highly specialized areas of Research Administration. The Office of Sponsored Projects is a customer service organization dedicated to supporting a diverse client set including University administration, faculty, support staff and sponsoring entities.

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration or related field or equivalency required (two years relevant work experience is equivalent to one year of education). Two years experience working with federal or private funding agencies on grants, contracts or other agreements required. The ability to work independently, effectively and efficiently under extreme pressure and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills also required.
An advanced degree in Public Administration, Law or a related field and five years of increasingly responsible experience within an academic or higher education environment preferred. Computer literacy in data management, document preparation and management, spreadsheet creation and presentation software is also preferred.
