Job Summary

The Division of Epidemiology at the University of Utah seeks a highly-motivated and a self-driven software developer with a Java-backed component design and development experience, including exposure toSQLandETLskills. We are looking for a Senior Software Developer to join our dynamic, fast-paced, cutting-edge technology development team. Performs complicated and difficult assignments under general direction requiring a high degree of technical competence reflecting current state-of-the-art applications field (i.e.,SQL, Java,HTML, and JavaScript). Conceives and plans projects involving the assessment of basic architecture, current hardware limitations, defines and selects new concepts and approaches. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. May report directly to a project lead or manager.


-Java-backed component design and development (Java, Spring, Groovy)

-Building and consuming web services. (Rest-based)

-Developing backend services and front end UIs (HTML,CSS, Bootstrap, Angular).

-Building back-end services to consume variables passed from the application.

-Requires programming in Angular and Java Script UI framework, grails server-side controller, services, and domain model framework, withGORM/Hibernate persistence toSQLserver and MySQL databases.

- Knowledge of coding in UI, server side, and database design and implementation is needed, as well as package and deploy of applications to Apache Tomcat within a secure, single sign on, Microsoft private cloud environment.

-Designs, modifies, develops, writes and implements software programming applications for all in-house cutting-edge research tools. Participates in the testing process.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a bachelor’s degree in a related area or equivalency and 4-6 years of experience in the field or in a related area.

Optional Skills

-Understanding of Natural Language Processing (NLP) and appreciation forNLPresearch, Machine Learning (ML) with experience inUIMAAS is a plus.
