Job Summary

Huntsman Mental Health Institute is seeking a Social Media and Communications Specialist to produce creative content and campaigns across all platforms and social media channels. The Social Media and Communications Specialist will be a strong writer who can create and share timely, high-quality content that highlights HMHI’s clinical, research, education, and community outreach missions. The ideal candidate is a savvy social media user who knows how to build and target audiences and grow social media engagement. This position will performs a variety of writing and project management tasks while using good judgment and strong interpersonal skills to plan and execute social media and communications strategies.

This position is considered Category IIA : Not required on campus and has the ability to telework remotely for the duration of the University of Utah’s response to COVID -19. An employee hired into this role will be responsible for providing space, telephone, printing, networking and/or internet capabilities at the telecommute location and agree to the terms of the University of Utah campus and Health Academics COVID -19 Telecommuting Agreement.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

•Produce and curate digital content to engage users, increase user base, and grow channels. Optimize content delivery strategies; build content topics, tailor content to outlet platform, target specific audiences, and make editorial decisions.

•Strategize to build and grow digital community through social media channels, paid advertising campaigns, blogs, and the web.

•Manage social listening efforts based on comments and online conversations. Respond to reputation risks by taking appropriate action and recommend solutions to minimize harm.

•Compile data and report on social media use. Analyze how content is performing and create monthly performance indicator reports with recommendations.

•Build support for social initiatives with internal stakeholders by acting as internal advocate for digital community efforts, drive digital best practices among staff and faculty and conduct trainings.

•Provide customer service to constituents across digital channels; Represent organization to constituents, campus, media

Additional duties:

•Work with faculty/staff to write, schedule, prepare, edit, produce and share content for HMHI’s blog, both timely responses and trend pieces. Promote these pieces through social channels.

•Create and send email newsletters or other email communications as needed.

•Compose written material for diverse audiences across a variety of channels, including the HMHI website, brochures, reports, and other needed collateral materials.

•Work with freelancers or third party agencies as needed to produce design, video, and other digital content.

•Support HMHI’s media relations by replying to media inquiries, support press events and other media relations tasks as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree English, Journalism, Communications, or related field plus 3 years of related experience, or equivalency; excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills; familiarity with a variety of computer software; project management and strong interpersonal skills; ability to work both individually and in a team setting.

Some areas may require additional experience with specific computer systems and may require skills in interviewing, ad copy writing, editing, photography, web writing, graphic design, audio & video production, and oral presentation.

Master’s degree in a related field may be preferred.

-Degree in communications, journalism, writing, marketing or related field. 2+ years of experience
