Job Summary

Senior Career Coach for the David Eccles School of Business Career Services for students completing a Bachelor Degree in Finance and Quantitative Analysis of Markets & Organizations.

Under minimal supervision, responsible for educating and coaching students through a career development process with productive follow-up activities. Job search preparation and strategies provided to students, as well as limited involvement with alumni, in facilitating the transitions from academics to internships then after-graduation employment. Position also includes workshop design and presentation as well as promoting career events and facilitating the connection of students and employers in appropriate matches.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

1. Markets and promotes new and existing programs and services to internal and external customers.

2. Facilitates cooperative and collaborative community and institutional relationships.

3. Ensures customer satisfaction by analyzing complaints, concerns, suggestions, and providing appropriate follow-through.

4. Develops departmental strategies consistent with the assigned department’s continuous quality improvement program.

Problem Solving

Often selects from a predetermined list of alternatives and sometimes recommends or changes policy and procedure based upon amount of discretion given by department. Problems would be referred to superior based upon predetermined guidelines set by the department.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in a related area of assignment or equivalency and 4 – 6 years of progressively more responsible management experience. Background knowledge of career services in order to analyze, plan and draw conclusions for recommendations to superiors. Demonstrated leadership skills in planning and directing employees and processes in order to effectively monitor and develop subordinates and to ensure smooth operation. Completion of provided supervisory training within one year of employment may be required.

Master’s degree in a related area may be preferred.

•Finance industry and/or human resources recruiting experience is a plus.

•Ability to provide each student in assigned portfolio with guidance in career exploration, demonstrating knowledge of career development theory, career assessments and coaching strategies as students consider business majors and related career paths.

•Candidates will have previous experience assisting with resume writing, interviewing, job search skills, networking, and salary negotiations.

•Effective communication skills for oral presentations and facilitating sessions to large and medium-sized groups required as well as professional and concise writing skills.

•Ability to use MS Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel, and career center student/employer database effectively.

•Competence with survey instruments to report job placement/salary records in timely accurate reports for administration and accreditation agencies.

•Previous responsibilities in external outreach or campus recruiting and building productive relationships while identifying a match between job postings and targeted resume referrals.

•Demonstrated actions as a team player. Coordinate activities between career center and assigned departments/faculty, other business school departments, as well as U of U Career & Professional Development Center.
