Provides security services for the campus community which include but are not limited to: Locking buildings, unlocking buildings, patrolling campus, writing reports, assisting motorists, and documenting patrol activities.
This position is considered Category I: Mandatory and required on campus or health care facilities to support on-site operations. Employees hired into this category will be required to be physically located at designated assigned building on the University of Utah campus if they are healthy and without COVID -19 symptoms
1. Provide a uniformed security presence on Campus
2. Patrol campus premises to deter criminal activity and enhance the safety of students, staff, and faculty
3. Monitor facilities in assigned areas of patrol
4. Write reports of irregularities such as equipment or property damage
5. Request police or other emergency services in situations such as fire, disturbances, or medical emergencies
6. Escort or drive motor vehicle to patrol assigned area and /or transporting individuals
7. Maintain professional demeanor during stressful situations
8. Adhere to department and university policies
9. May be required to work any shift, on days off, weekends, and holidays (All University of Utah Security Staff will work the U home football games regardless of the person’s schedule)
10. May work in inclement weather or extreme weather conditions
11. May be confined to a service vehicle for an entire shift
12. Required to provide vehicle boosts, car unlocks, and other motorist assistance services
13. Must be willing to maintain required trainings. All trainings will be provided by the department.

Often: Office environment, outdoor environment, extreme cold, extreme heat, noise (there is sufficient noise to cause you to shout in order to be heard above the noise level), exposure to animals, atmospheric conditions (conditions that affect the respiratory system, such as fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, or poor ventilation)
Seldom: Oils (there is air or skin exposure to oils or other cutting fluids)

High school diploma, GED or equivalency and one year security experience or equivalency; successfully pass a background check; demonstrated communications skills; and a commitment to providing excellent customer service required. A valid Utah Driver’s License to be obtained within 6 months of hire.
The incumbent will be required to obtain Crisis Prevention Institute certification ( CPI ) after being hired. The incumbent will also be required to attend other mandatory trainings as determined or required by the Department of Public Safety.
