Job Summary

The Scrum Master is a facilitator who guides cross functional teams comprised of developers, DBAs, and a Product Owner in the execution and principles of the Lean-Agile mindset. You will act as a servant leader to the team, helping them self-organize, self-manage, and deliver via effective agile practices. You will also support and enforce agile best practices. The Scrum Master also helps the team coordinate and communicate with other teams and management as needed. The Scrum Master will ensure the tracking and reporting of day-to-day activities as well as remove roadblocks and impediments.


•Schedule and facilitate daily stand up meetings.

•Schedule/facilitate sprint planning and retrospective meetings prior to the beginning of each sprint.

•Work with Product Owner and delivery teams to groom stories in advance.

•Communicate committed stories for the upcoming sprint to the Product Owner and stakeholders, and protecting the scope of those commitments.

•Monitor team backlog daily and ensure it accurately reflects the current state, including burndown chart and status, at the release and sprint levels.

•Facilitate impediment resolution in a timely, cost effective manner; stay attuned to team needs and remove impediments before they form.

•Facilitate in sprint and release retrospectives.

•Understand Huntsman Cancer InstituteRISRbusiness and obtain knowledge of the products, goals and priorities to deliver on the technology needs.

•Drive process improvement and keep team accountable to improvements.

•Alert and involve appropriate management, when necessary.

•Ensure that the Definition of Done is established and adhered to at all levels.

•Understand and support solving technical problems by researching underlying source code or data to suggest possible solutions to the team.

•Eliminate tasks and work items that would distract the development team by fielding customer questions and solving basic technical requests.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a bachelor’s degree in a related area or equivalency and 4-6 years of experience in the field or in a related area.

•B.S. in Computer Science, Engineering, Math or similar technical degree or equivalent.

•Certified Scrum Master (CSM) or immediate plans to become certified.

•Experience with Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).

•Proficiency using JavaScript and HTML5.

•Experience with Java and Node.js.

•Familiarity with Oracle Database, MicrosoftSQLServer, or other industry standard relational databases.

•Proactive with strong problem solving and analytical skills.

•Strong drive to deliver tangible value even when faced with ambiguity.

•Strong belief in continuous improvement and team empowerment.

•Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, and follow up communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences.

•Proficient knowledge of at least one application lifecycle management tool; Jira preferred.

•Expert knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
