Serves as a technician in the field of industrial hygiene or occupational safety. Responsibilities for compliance auditing, sampling and performing work place health and safety surveys. Identifies unsafe or unhealthy situations or practices to the assigned specialist team.
1. Performs audits of work places and evaluates collected audit data to determine compliance withOSHAregulations. Prepares draft audit result communications.
2. Assists Industrial Hygiene and/or Occupational Safety teams with occupational exposure monitoring and other related duties.
3. May perform field work required for compliance such as calibrating and operating equipment for taking samples and monitoring personnel exposure, making mathematical calculations, obtaining media, submitting samples for analysis and documenting events.
4. May perform field work involving measurements as directed to determine adequacy and performance of local exhaust ventilation systems including laboratory chemical hoods. Enter collected data into fume hood survey database.
Associate’s degree in related field or equivalent experience in a science or research laboratory environment required. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills. Ability to present to small or large groups of people. Working knowledge ofOSHAregulations.
A current Driver’s License may be required.

Bachelor’s Degree in a science-related discipline such as: biology, chemistry, environmental science, industrial hygiene, occupational safety, or occupational health
One (1) or more years’ experience in a safety and health field such as industrial hygiene, occupational safety or occupational health
Work experience as an occupational health and safety auditor/inspector
Experience working in a university setting especially in a laboratory and/or shop setting at a research institution
