Job Summary

The Rural & Underserved Utah Training Experience ( RUUTE ) and Regional Affairs program in the University of Utah School of Medicine is seeking a manager to assist in the oversight of the planning, implementation, and evaluation of research, extracurricular programs, and outreach initiatives within the RUUTE program. The mission of the RUUTE and Regional Affairs program is to improve medical education and training, health care access, and long-term socio-economic benefit for rural and underserved communities of Utah and the intermountain west by expanding interest, awareness, and placement of medical students and residents.

Responsibilities

  1. Oversee and manage RUUTE’s K – 20 pipeline, prehealth matriculation, outreach, and research initiatives that align with RUUTE’s mission and vision
  2. Oversee and manage RUUTE’s research programs for high school, undergraduate, and medical students while developing strong relationships with research faculty mentors
  3. Search for and thoroughly review grant opportunities aligned with RUUTE’s mission to expand K-12, undergraduate, research, and medical student opportunities, and collaborate with team members on grant submission
  4. Liaison with multiple internal and external UUSOM departments and stakeholders such as the office of Health Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion ( OHEDI ), Office of Sponsored Projects, Youth Protection and Program Support, rural/underserved school districts and teachers, research investigators, among others
  5. Establish long-lasting internal and external relationships with rural/underserved stakeholders and communities
  6. Help guide communication and outreach activities, including but not limited to social media, podcasts, printed material, among others
  7. Coordinate and serve as RUUTE’s research subject matter expert regarding research elective courses offered to students
  8. Help develop potential hub sites in Eastern Utah
  9. Coordinate and manage administrative matters and office functions
  10. Oversee and manage the development and ongoing needs of the RUUTE and the RUUTE staff/faculty
  11. Advise and assist University of Utah School of Medicine students, faculty, staff and local partners in administrative and logistical matters related to pipeline, outreach and research
  12. Support project team leaders in updating work plans, managing project timelines and budgets
  13. Assist in RUUTE and Regional Affairs’ budget planning, organization, and implementation
  14. Co-develop and implement program-specific policies and procedures, including a hybrid work model where a combination of in-person and remote work is expected.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related area plus three years of experience in budget, grant OR program management or equivalency required. Develops and implements program ideas into successful academic and research programs; demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills also required.

Preferences

● Master’s degree in a related field

● Familiarity with administration in higher education and/or background or knowledge of rural or underserved health and/or health care

● Demonstrate a high level of management to effectively lead a robust team

● Strong organizational skills along with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbally and in writing

● Ability to work independently and take initiative to achieve outcomes is essential
