Job Summary

University Medical Billing ( UMB ) is a fully remote department that is viewed as the premier billing office for the University of Utah School of Medicine, serving over 1800 providers and 30 different specialties across Utah and surrounding states. We are looking for an experienced billing professional to join our leadership team. As the Revenue Integration Manager , you will be responsible for the management of authorizations, registrations, professional charging, reconciliation processes, and denials. Under minimal supervision, you will plan, organize, direct and/or control all aspects pertaining to front end revenue cycle functions. Additionally, you will assist in evaluating current and proposed systems and procedures, recommend changes when necessary, assist in implementation of new processes, and act as a supportive and creative catalyst between the department and its customers and staff to ensure continuity and quality of service and care.

Compensation & Benefits

The stating salary for this position is $75,000-$100,000/yr, depending on experience. Members of UMB are eligible for a bonus based on department performance. Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  1. Manage details of the medical billing processes: registrations, authorizations, charging, and denials.
  2. Analyze process outcomes and workflow to ensure and identify efficiencies in productivity and savings. Collaborates with internal and external partners to maximize utilization of available systems and processes.
  3. Analysis of supervisor and staff competency including the development and/or presentation of educational programs and performance evaluations. Analysis to determine appropriate staffing levels to support departmental authorization, registration, and charge capture needs.
  4. Coach supervisors and staff to develop leadership and professional development skills. Provide direction for supervisor to manage multiple deadlines. Conducts quality reviews and professional development meetings with supervisors and training supervisors to enhance the work product to be given to departmental contacts for continuing education.
  5. Continual creation and revision of the billing software for multiple departments to assist in the capture of additional dollars for the UUHSC , and its providers. Responsible for creating edits to improve billing of services.
  6. Participate in institutional committees to establish consistent guidelines for authorization and billing of medical services. Facilitate cooperative and collaborative inter-departmental and institutional interactions.
  7. Evaluate variety of reports to identify trends for educational opportunities, process improvements. Develop and implement strategies to optimize costs with return on investment for process enhancement. Meet as part of the Executive Management team to discuss various operational, user and system workflows. Analyze processes across the department to determine FTE needs for appropriate staffing needs based on work volumes. Participate in the development and implementation of departmental and institutional policies and procedures.
  8. Monitors the appropriateness and effectiveness of service within the division to deliver outstanding service both internally and externally to the division.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in a related area of assignment or equivalency (2 years related work experience may be substituted for 1 year of education). Four years of progressively more responsible management experience. Background knowledge of assigned department’s area of specialization in order to analyze, plan and draw conclusions for recommendations to superiors. Demonstrated leadership skills in planning and directing employees and processes in order to effectively monitor and develop subordinates and to ensure the smooth operation of department.

Master’s degree in a related area may be preferred.
