Job Summary
Handles incoming calls and referrals from outside providers/families in order to schedule patients in the correct pediatric cardiology sub-specialty clinics with appropriate testing. Works closely with Pediatric Department’s HIM referral team to triage incoming referrals and obtain records. Partners with physicians and clinical staff to determine best course of action. Requires clinical experience with EMRs in order to review patient chart for pertinent medical information. Must be able to propose orders under the direction of NPs, PAs, and physicians. Certified Nursing Assistant or Medical Assistant certification required. Will schedule urgent patients in the iCentra system as needed.
Responsibilities
•Addresses inbound calls, electronic and faxed referrals
•Performs outbound calls to patient families and referring provider offices in order to gather necessary medical information
•Proposes testing orders under the direction of physicians
•Logs inbound calls and referrals; prepares reports that summarize referrals to specific physicians and clinics
•Requests information from referring physician’s office when little information is provided about a patient’s condition/disease
•Maintains and updates several databases with accurate physician contact and demographic information
•Obtains medical records
Problem Solving
Must employ critical thinking in a medical realm in order to best serve new patients and their families. Incumbents must work diligently to maintain and update databases to ensure the integrity of referral information.

Minimum Qualifications
Associates degree in Business, Finance, Health Care Administration or a related field, or equivalency required; demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills also required.
This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements. Preferences
•Certified Nursing Assistant or Medical Assistant certification
•Demonstrated understanding of cardiology and medical terms
•Ability to work closely with physicians, mid-levels, and RNs
•Proficient with EPIC , Microsoft Excel, iCentra, Powerchart, and Microsoft Word
•An in-depth understanding of electronic medical record systems, with the ability to extract relevant cardiac history, complaints, and concerns
