Job Summary

The Division of Pediatric Clinical Enterprise at the University of Utah School of Medicine has an immediate opening for a Pediatric Specialty Scheduler. The Pediatric Specialty Scheduler will answer phones and triage patient concerns in a fast-paced, team environment. Makes a difference for patients in an outpatient care unit by providing excellent customer service, facilitating and ensuring the accuracy of the information flow between medical, hospital staff and departments to maximize unit efficiency.

This position is housed in a call center, separate from clinic locations.

Responsibilities

1.Answer and triage a high volume of incoming calls from parents, physicians, pharmacies, labs, etc.

2.Quickly and effectively switch between calls and other assigned tasks.

3.Schedule and register patients in iCentra for multiple divisions in the Department of Pediatrics, including complex coordination of various specialties and testing.

4.Correspond via email, phone, and Electronic Medical Records with department physicians and staff.

5.Maintain and utilize organized work lists, including reminder calls, wait lists, referrals, registration, insurance verification, and filling clinics.

6.Comply with Federal and University privacy guidelines (includingHIPAA) in entering health information into Electronic Medical Records.

7.Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

One year of continuous office experience or equivalency; basic computer skills; and successful completion of a medical terminology course provided by the hospital within the first year of employment required. Demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills are also required.

Experience withICD-9 andCPT4 coding may be preferred.

One year experience in patient registration, admitting or related work may be preferred.

Preferences

•Familiarity with Microsoft Office and ability to navigate four to eight concurrent computer programs effectively

•Typing speed of 40WPMor more

•Experience in medical office scheduling and phone customer service

•Fluent Spanish speaking skills

•Experience with Electronic Medical Record system(s) and medical terminology strongly preferred

•Ability to use ten-key by touch
