Job Summary

The South Main Pediatric Clinic at the University of Utah, School of Medicine has an immediate opening for an Outpatient Services Specialist ( OSS ). The OSS makes a difference for patients in the outpatient care unit by providing excellent customer service, facilitating and ensuring the accuracy of the information flow between patients/families and medical staff to maximize unit efficiency. Provides administrative input regarding the internal operation of the division.

Job location is 3690 South Main Street, Salt Lake City, UT.

Responsibilities

1. Completes patient admission or registration process by reviewing accounts and other compliance-related documents for completeness and accuracy. Obtains and documents missing information required for completion of the registration.

2. Enters corrected or new patient data into the Epic system.

3. Schedules patient appointments; contacts patients for rescheduling, missed appointments and appointment reminders.

4. Prepares paperwork for patient visits.

5. Communicates with patients in a confidential, professional manner using tact and diplomacy.

6. Notifies patients and their families of co-pays, deductibles, and co-insurance as appropriate and collects co-payments.

7. Reconciles against daily charge reports.

8. Monitors patient flow; adjusts workflow accordingly and notifies the clinical staff.

9. Answers telephones and performs other receptionist duties such as sorting and distributing mail.

Must be able to maintain a professional demeanor in stressful or difficult situations.

  • This position involves light work that may exert up to 20 pounds and may consistently require light work involving lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling or otherwise moving objects. This position involves standing for extended periods of time and is not exposed to adverse environmental conditions.

Minimum Qualifications

• One year of office experience, customer

service experience, or the equivalency.

• Current, valid Utah driver’s license at

time of hire may be required in some

areas.

Preferences

  • Fluent Spanish language skills, both oral and written
  • Experience with EPIC EMR system
  • One year of experience in patient registration, admitting, or related work.
