The South Main Pediatric Clinic at the University of Utah School of Medicine has an immediate opening for a Medical Assistant that shares our vision and passion for caring for children. Job location is 3690 S. Main Street, Salt Lake City. The Medical Assistant plays a critical role in facilitating the efficient delivery of patient care, supporting the professional role of the licensed staff, and providing support and assistance as directed by licensed staff in rendering basic healthcare to pediatric patients.
Additional responsibilities include clerical functions, data tracking and report completion. 1.Prepares patients for examinations and diagnostic procedures according to clinic procedures such as recording temperatures, pulse rate, pulse oximetry, blood pressure and responses to standardized medical history questions.
2.Completes patient admission or registration process by reviewing accounts and other compliance-related documents for completeness and accuracy. Obtains and documents missing information required for completion of the registration.
3.Reports all observed patient concerns and changes in condition to a licensed staff
4.Schedules patient appointments; contacts patients for rescheduling, missed appointments and appointment reminders.
5.Performs Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) Waived Lab tests such as urine dip stick, Hgb, Hct, finger stick, glucose, hemoccults and reports results to the appropriate personnel.
6.Performs specialty skills such as suture removal, straight catheterization and injections (IM, SQ and intradermal).
7.Acts as a chaperone for health care providers during patient examination as requested and assists with procedures.
8.Monitors and cleans assigned patient examination rooms, unit areas and unit equipment reporting outdated supplies and necessary equipment repairs.
9.Answers telephones, forwards telephone messages and under the direction of licensed staff, schedules appointments, procedures and diagnostic tests. Assists in routine clerical functions such as filing of medical information in patient’s records, obtaining medical records from other providers and entering charges for billing purposes.
10.Attends and completes mandatory in-services including electronic medical record,HIPPA, infection control, safety,CPR, equipment usage and procedures according to hospital and department policies.
11.May apply leads and monitor for diagnostic procedures such asEKGand ultrasound scan under the direct supervision of licensed personnel.
12.May assist inpatient and family education by providing educational material and general health information to patients and family members.

Completion of a certified Medical Assistant program or current certification as anEMT- Intermediate in the state of Utah is required. Basic Life Support Health Care Provider card or obtain one within one month of hire; demonstrated phlebotomy skills and demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills also required. Demonstrated proficiency in the specific clinic’s specialty skills within six weeks of hire is required. Specialty skills may not be performed until after the new hire completes competency testing.
Hiring department may prefer Medical Assistant Certification or Registration.

•Fluency in Spanish, both oral and written.
•Two years of related work experience in community based pediatrics or primary care setting.
•Strong computer skills, excellent ability to multi-task, and ability to effectively and independently manage time.
•Completion of a national Certified Medical Assistant required within 6 months of hire.
