Job Summary

Supports the development and implementation of an externally funded program, the American Dream Ideas Challenge, and plays an important role in the day-to-day activities of the project.

The University of Utah has been selected as a member institution in the Alliance for the American Dream, a Schmidt Futures initiative, and has been awarded a $1.5 million grant to run the American Dream Ideas Challenge. The Challenge aims to find, fund, and develop policy and technology innovations from individuals or groups in Utah to help foster access to and support for a thriving middle class.

Due to the duration of funding, this is a time limited position which will end on July 31, 2020. Only if additional funding is secured will there be the option (but not guarantee) to extend the position.

Responsibilities

Project Outreach — conduct outreach to community members, government agencies or entities, nonprofits, business and thought leaders, as well as faculty, staff, and students from universities and colleges from across the state. This includes coordinating seminars, workshops, luncheons and other meetings on topics within the scope of the Challenge. Should be comfortable with event planning, public speaking, and community engagement.

Project Planning — ensure the project process and timeline is maintained alongside the Project Director. This includes managing the multi-round judging process, aiding project participants once they have received the grant, and coordinating communication with grant recipients. Provide information to students, faculty, staff, and government and community agencies regarding the parameters, policies, and procedures of the project.

Administrative Support and Project Scheduling — coordinate procedural matters regarding the day-to day operations of the Challenge as well as coordinate scheduling to maintain the long-term process of the Challenge. This includes scheduling for the Project Director, organizing the board meetings, and other administrative duties as assigned.

Technical Support – provide technical support for the Challenge including social media management and monitoring, website maintenance, and outside research on topics pertaining to the challenge. Work with the University Communications and Marketing Team on advertisement and material and should possess skills in PC,MAC, desktop software, and web applications.

Monitors the process and outcomes of the projects. Assists in preparing reports and manuscripts. Reviews monthly budget statements to ensure that the project has the funds needed for continuation.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalency plus 2 years related experience, demonstrated outreach and communications skills; ability to manage multiple projects; and a commitment to providing excellent customer service required. Experience in management or coordination, training, quality assurance, team building, program development and evaluation preferred.

Masters degree preferred.
