Job Summary

The Partners for Innovation, Ventures, Outreach & Technology ( PIVOT ) Center leads the University of Utah’s centralized and integrated strategy and operation for technology commercialization, corporate engagement and economic development. In doing so, the Center serves as a hub for the U to foster partnerships between industry, university and government entities. The Center formalizes the U’s commitment to broaden its impact on Utah’s economy by enhancing local and global collaborations to catalyze innovation.

PIVOT Center is looking for a highly motivated person to serve as a Program Manager – to develop, manage and execute several event-based programs.

Under minimal supervision, responsible for planning, organizing, directing and/or controlling all aspects pertaining to a sizable specific program or multiple program functions. Manage programs with strong attention to strategy and implementation. Programs will include activities such as networking, educational, and other events promoted by PIVOT Center. Acts as a catalyst between PIVOT Center and its stakeholders and staff to ensure continuity and quality of service and care.

Responsibilities

The Program Manager will work under the direction of PIVOT Center’s Sr. Director of Communications to create and run programs and ensure that requirements are met in a timely manner. Specifically, the key duties of the Program Manager include:

• Work closely with PIVOT senior team members and PIVOT stakeholders to plan and develop scope, deliverables, required resources, work plan, and timing for initiatives.

• Develop and manage goals for program(s) and be accountable for delivering against established business goals/objectives.

• Manage multiple, complex projects and meet deadlines.

• Manage all aspects of events and programming related to assigned programs.

• Analyze, evaluate, and produce presentations with findings for management and stakeholders.

• Write clear program content that demonstrates an understanding of each program and its objectives.

• Coordinate high-level engagements, develop agendas and presentation material.

• Serve as department representative in addressing issues and questions related to the programs, which may include representing the department on various committees.

• Communicate successfully with stakeholders to ensure productive meetings and balance of events and meetings.

• Forecast, prepare or direct the preparation of the program budget and monitor expenditures.

• Stay abreast of current issues, relevant programs or other related changes impacting the program(s) and make recommendations for improvement and compliance.

• May develop systems and maintain records to support and advance the program.

• Align with goals and objectives that are consistent with University of Utah’s policies.

• Market and promote new and existing programs and services to internal and external stakeholders.

• Facilitate cooperative and collaborative community and institutional relationships.

• Attend weekly department meetings.

• Work at on-site events and before/after normal business work hours.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related area or equivalency (2 years related work experience may be substituted for 1 year of education).
  • Four to six years of progressively more responsible management experience.
  • Background knowledge of hiring department’s area of specialization in order to analyze, plan and draw conclusions for recommendations to superiors.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in planning and directing employees and processes in order to effectively monitor and develop subordinates and to ensure the smooth operation of department.
  • Completion of provided supervisory training within one year of employment may be required.
  • Master’s degree in a related area may be preferred.
  • Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.
