Job Summary

The postdoctoral fellowship is for research on remodeling of cardiac cells from heart failure patients undergoing mechanical unloading with left ventricular assist devices. Previous work at the University of Utah revealed crucial microstructural and functional conditions for recovery of the unloaded heart.

The research project is funded by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute. Studies are performed under the supervision of Drs. Stavros Drakos and Frank Sachse, and in collaboration with other investigators of the Utah Cardiac Recovery Program (UCAR).


The postdoctoral fellow will be trained and work at the Nora Eccles Harrison Cardiovascular Research and Training Institute (CVRTI), University of Utah.CVRTIis a research institute focusing on cardiac electrophysiology and ion transport from the molecular to the whole organ level. The position is initially for 2 years and can be extended.

Minimum Qualifications


Candidates will be evaluated on research ability and required expertise. The ideal candidate has a PhD, MD or equivalent doctorate preferably with experience in cellular experimental research, in particular, on voltage clamp and calcium imaging of cardiomyocytes. The successful candidate is expected to apply state-of-the-art microscopic imaging of tissues and cells to quantitatively characterize structure-function relationships in human hearts in advanced failure and after unloading with left ventricular assist devices. Candidates must be self-motivated and independent thinkers with excellent communication and writing skills.
