Job Summary

Exciting NIH -funded opportunity is available in the Hartnett’s Lab for a post-doctoral Research Associate who has interest in translational research in retinal angiogenesis. Our laboratory works on models of human disease associated with abnormal retinal or choroidal angiogenesis. We use molecular biology, genetic models in mice, cell culture and study signaling mechanisms related to angiogenesis, employing pharmaceutical and gene therapy approaches. Our lab is part of the Moran Eye Center working alongside other researchers and clinicians. As part of the University of Utah we are able to take advantage of its core facilities and collaborate with other researchers and industry.

Post Doc Research Associates will have the opportunity to attend educational seminars at the John A. Moran Eye Center and present work at national or regional conferences. Prior experience with animal model experimental design, confocal microscopy, western blotting, real-time PCR , gene therapy and other molecular biology and biochemistry techniques is advantageous.

Responsibilities

1. Candidates will report directly to the Principal Investigator

2. Demonstrate effective communication skills; present research at national meetings and author manuscripts for publication in scientific journals

3. Collaborate with other laboratory personnel to execute aims of grants

4. Provide guidance to undergraduate and graduate students

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must have a PhD and proven research experience in experimental design with controls. Preference is for individuals with molecular, cell culture and animal experience preferably in ophthalmic research.
