The Department of Pathology has an immediate opening for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the immunology of malaria. The position will be based at the University of Utah School of Medicine, ranked among the top 30 public research universities in the nation with some work undertaken at the Centre Pasteur Cameroon in Central Africa. Work will be focused on the interaction of T follicular helper cells with germinal center B cells with a view to understanding factors that influence the generation of humoral immunity in malaria. The work will combine experiments in well-defined mouse models of malaria with analysis of human samples.
The person appointed to this position will be responsible for designing and executing experiments, analyzing data and preparing manuscripts, presenting data at National and International meetings and training more junior members of the laboratory in immunological techniques.
Applicants should have a PhD in immunology or infectious diseases, or a closely related field and must have research experience in flow cytometry, cell culture, working with mice and other basic immunology techniques such as ELISA and ELISPOT . Experience with molecular biology techniques such as quantitative PCR and analysis of next-generation sequencing are desirable. The ideal candidate will have interest to pursue a career in the immunology of infectious diseases.
The ideal candidate has strong writing skills and enjoys working in a collaborative and multidisciplinary team.
