Work relates to investigating tumor-suppressor genes in melanoma. Must have expertise in molecular biology. Experience working with mice is desirable. PhD in Biology, Chemistry or other scientific discipline or equivalency required: knowledge of complex laboratory techniques, equipment, terminology, materials and substances. Skilled in the use of laboratory equipment, ability to create and analyze statistical calculations and prepare reports required; and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills also required.
1.Confers with senior laboratory personnel regarding the procedures and techniques to be followed in conducting research and recommends modifications as needed.
2.Performs tests and procedures using laboratory equipment.
3.Monitors and assists with purchasing of laboratory supplies and materials.
4.Conducts literature reviews to obtain abstracts and information to be utilized in research.
5.Makes statistical calculations, analyzes data and prepares reports summarizing results.
6.May supervise the care of research animals; perform minor animal surgery or collect animal tissues and specimens for laboratory analysis.
7.May oversee the operations of student course experiments in a laboratory setting
Problem Solving. This position assists senior laboratory personnel in planning methods and techniques. Work requires exercising independent judgment and basic theoretical knowledge of the applicable science. This position may include limited supervision of entry-level laboratory personnel, who may refer sensitive or unusual situations to the incumbent. If incumbent cannot find a resolution, the situation is referred to the supervisor. Work is performed in accordance with the supervision of senior laboratory personnel and through periodic conferences with superior. The preferred candidate should have a PhD or higher degree in Biology or a related field. Previous laboratory experience in a molecular biology, biochemistry, histology or a related- field is highly desirable. The applicant should have a good working knowledge of molecular biology and genetics, as well as basic computer skills.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated initiative, curiosity and dedication to scientific research as well as the ability to work independently and in a team environment. Experimental duties include, but are not limited to:PCR-based genotyping, mouse dissection, preparation and analysis of histopathological samples, cell culture, microscopy, cell biology, as well asDNA,RNA, and protein isolation and analyses. The successful individual will also be responsible for laboratory maintenance and organization tasks.
