Job Summary

A postdoctoral position to study chronic Lyme disease is available immediately in the Janis Weis Lab, Microbiology & Immunology Division, University of Utah Department of Pathology.

Responsibilities

Non-classical, or bystander T cell activation drives the symptoms of chronic Lyme arthritis in a mouse model of Lyme disease. Initial studies have identified increased numbers of activated T cells in patients with Post treatment Lyme Disease Syndrome with sustained arthritis, suggesting similar mechanisms and pathways are involved in mouse and human.

Studies will involve characterization of surface markers and gene expression in T cells from mouse models and patients with chronic Lyme disease, with the goal of identifying novel targets for treatment.

Minimum Qualifications

PhD in microbiology and immunology related field, familiarity with flow cytometry, and some understanding of bioinformatics and big data base analysis.

Willingness to work with mice necessary.
