Job Summary

We are seeking to recruit an outstanding Postdoctoral Research Associate to study the molecular and genetic mechanisms regulating iron metabolism, and specifically, how iron dysregulation causes hematological and neurodegenerative diseases, and diabetes. This project utilizes a multidisciplinary approach employing transgenic mouse models, functional genomics,RNAanalyses, proteomics, metabolomics, mammalian cell-culture and immunological technologies.

Responsibilities

Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.

1. Performs self-directed research under minimal supervision as well as working as part of a team

2. Assists the Principal Investigator in the design, implementation and performance of new protocols and procedures as well as the modification of existing techniques.

3. Makes statistical calculations and analyzes data

4. Maintains mouse colonies and isolates animal tissues

5. Drafts manuscripts for scientific journals and presents work internally and externally at conferences

6. Assists with training of junior staff and students

7. Orders lab supplies and manages daily lab operation

Minimum Qualifications

The ideal candidate should have a PhD or a MD in Biology, Chemistry or in a relevant field with significant laboratory experience in molecular biology. The candidate will have demonstrated record of scientific accomplishment as evidence by first-author publications in scientific journals. Working knowledge of advanced scientific techniques and procedures as well as the ability to make statistical calculations, analyze results, prepare manuscripts and perform specialized assays are required. The candidate should be highly motivated and should be able to work both independently and as part of a team. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills are required.

Preference will be given to candidates with experience in molecular biology and transgenic mouse models
