Job Summary

Qualified candidate should hold a doctoral degree (PhD), ideally with training and experience in advanced statistical analysis and/or management of molecular genetic data. Experience with R and bash computational commands required. Demonstrated evidence of scientific productivity in the form of published manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals is also required. Candidates should have a demonstrated ability to conduct basic, applied, or clinical research, and to write manuscripts and presentations.

Responsibilities

1. Conducting research:

• Work with large electronic heath records, demographic data, and genotype and sequence data. This work will involve the application of existing statistical genetics methods, and the development of new approaches with our team for use in the laboratory analytic pipeline.

• Take a leadership role in the training and organization of research associates and students to perform data analysis tasks.

• Seek out training experiences that a) enhance knowledge of data analysis techniques, and b) enhance skill in working with clinical experts to interpret research results.

• Design and execute analyses, evaluate statistical results, and interpret data.

• Write, edit and review scientific abstracts and research papers for publication in peer-reviewed journals. Organize data in the form of poster and slide presentations, and present data for seminars and reports to interdisciplinary groups of scientists.

2. Administrative duties:

• Pursue funding for research projects by writing grants to national institutes like the NIMH / NIH , to local, regional, and national foundations, and to internal funding opportunities at the University of Utah.

• Assist other investigators in the development and submission of grant proposals that benefit the research team.

• Assist with maintaining appropriate permissions for the research (e.g., IRB , RGE , Health Department regulations), and appropriate ethical training of research staff and students.

Preferences

Applicants with backgrounds in latent variable modeling/structural equation modeling referred. Applicants with experience conducting genome-wide association studies and polygenic risk score analyses preferred.
