Job Summary

The Department of Family and Preventive Medicine at the University of Utah School of Medicine is seeking highly motivated candidates for one or more postdoctoral research associate positions. The postdoctoral associate will have opportunity to participate in intramurally and extramurally-funded projects focused on improving the health of and achieving health equity among populations experiencing health disparities. Examples of projects include tobacco control and cancer screening/early detection among populations experiencing cancer-related health inequities. We seek applications from exceptional individuals in the areas of biobehavioral, clinical and/or translational, public health, and other areas relevant to health equity. Candidates with experience working with racial and ethnic minorities, immigrants, and refugee populations are strongly encouraged to apply.

The position is designed to prepare individuals for independent academic research careers. Individuals selected for this position(s) will have opportunities to lead and/or co-author manuscript publications and share project investigator roles in a manner commensurate with their experience and effort.

Salary level is competitive and in compliance with the Fair Labor Standards Act for postdoctoral researchers effective December 1, 2016, as well as the 2021 Kirschstein- NRSA salary schedule for levels 0-4. The Department of Family and Preventive Medicine was founded in 1970, making it one of the oldest and most established family medicine departments in the country. Currently ranked #2 in NIH funding in the 2020 Blueridge Report, the department comprises four complimentary divisions: Public Health, Physician Assistant Studies, Family Medicine, and Occupational and Environmental Health. The department offers eight different graduate degrees, teaches medical students, and trains residents in Family Medicine and Occupational and Environmental Medicine. Minimum Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:

PhD, MD, or other doctoral degree in health-related discipline from an accredited program. The applicant will have a demonstrated record of scientific accomplishment as evidenced by at least one first- author peer-reviewed publication in a scientific journal.


Experience working with populations of interest described above. Women and

individuals from populations underrepresented in biomedical disciplines are strongly

encouraged to apply. Prior experience/knowledge in smoking cessation, alcohol

addiction, and cancer prevention is an added advantage.
