The Division of Pediatric Critical Care at the University of Utah School of Medicine is recruiting for a Pediatric Intensivist who possesses a minimum of 9-12 months post fellowship experience at a large academic institution, which includes management of critically ill congenital cardiac patients, including extracorporeal membrane oxygenation ( ECMO ) and ventricular assist device. Clinical responsibilities will center on the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit ( PICU ) primarily at Utah Valley Hospital ( UVH ) in Provo, UT in conjunction with Primary Children’s Hospital ( PCH ) in Salt Lake City, UT. At UVH , the Pediatric Intensivist will attend on the PICU service 12-14 weeks, and will share both in-house and out of house call (within a 20-minute radius). Clinical service will also be provided at PCH (5-6 weeks), and at other regional hospitals via telemedicine. The Pediatric Intensivist will provide pediatric point of care ultrasound for intensive care unit ( ICU ) procedures, and will be expected to serve roles in both pediatric child abuse detection and palliative care during their service time. The Pediatric Intensivist will also develop and conduct medical simulations for pediatric care providers at UVH and PCH , as well as participate in medical student simulation at the University of Utah School of Medicine. The selected candidate must have extensive prior experience in these areas.
UVH is approximately 45 miles from Salt Lake City. The PICU at UVH is a 6-bed unit and the PICU at PCH is a 28-bed unit. The units are staffed with board certified/eligible critical care pediatricians. The clinical services provided span all modalities of life-sustaining therapy, including mechanical ventilation, hemodynamic monitoring and support, neurosurgical care. The unit at PCH provides quaternary level care to include ( ECMO ) and dialysis. The selected candidate is expected to reside within the specified call-back radius during service weeks and call.
Qualified candidates must meet the following requirements:
• Board Eligible/Board Certified in Pediatrics and in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine
• Minimum 9-12 months post fellowship clinical experience at a large academic institution, which includes management of critically ill congenital cardiac patients, including ECMO and ventricular assist device
• Successful completion of Certificate Programs in both Palliative Care and in Child Abuse
• Successful completion of a Physician Simulation Facilitator Course
• Successful completion of the Society of Critical Care Medicine Critical Care Ultrasound course
The selected candidate will receive a faculty appointment in the Department of Pediatrics as an Assistant Professor on the Clinical track.
