The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Utah, School of Medicine has an immediate opening for an Outpatient Services Specialist to join our front desk reception team at Primary Children’s Outpatient Services Building. The Outpatient Services Specialist makes a difference for patients in the outpatient care unit by providing excellent customer service, facilitating and ensuring the accuracy of the information flow between medical, hospital staff and departments to maximize unit efficiency.
1.Completes the patient registration process by reviewing accounts and other compliance-related documents for completeness and accuracy. Obtains and documents missing information required for the completion of patient registration.
2.Enters corrected or new patient data into iCentra andEPICsystems.
3.Prepares paperwork for patient visit.
4.Communicates with patients, providers and colleagues in a confidential professional manner using tact and diplomacy.
5.Notifies patients and their families of co-pays, deductibles, and co-insurance as appropriate; collects co-payments. Reconciles against daily charge reports.
6.Schedules patient appointments. Contacts patients for rescheduling, missed appointments and appointment reminders. Monitors patient flow; adjusts workflow as appropriate and notifies clinical staff.
7.Performs special projects and other clinical support duties as assigned.
Must be able to maintain professional demeanor in stressful or difficult situations.
One year of continuous office experience or equivalency; basic computer skills; and successful completion of a medical terminology course provided by the hospital within the first year of employment required. Demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills are also required.
Experience withICD-9 andCPT4 coding may be preferred.
One year experience in patient registration, admitting or related work may be preferred.
