University of Utah Health Nursing Director (RN) - Inpatient Medical Rehabilitation Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah

Overview

University of Utah Health is seeking an experienced and strategic nursing leader to join our team as the new Nursing Director over Inpatient Medical Rehabilitation in the upcoming Craig H. Neilsen Rehabilitation Hospital (opening Spring 2020) on the University of Utah Campus!

This Nursing Leadership opportunity requires:

  • Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Utah (or one obtained within 90 days of hire under the interstate compact).

  • BSN education (Master's degree in Nursing, Health Care Administration, Business Administration or a related area preferred)

  • 5+ years of progressive management experience in an inpatient medical rehabilitation setting.

Our ideal candidate also has:

  • Proven history of innovative nursing program design and implementation in an acute medical rehab setting.

  • CRRN certification.

  • Experience working with stroke, spinal cord injury, and traumatic brain injury patients.

  • High level of collaboration skills with other medical disciplines

  • Strong strategic acumen.

Department Overview: This position reports directly to both the Chief Nursing Officer and the Executive Director of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation. The Nursing Director directs the nursing operations and strategic planning of customer/patient services for the Craig H. Nielsen Rehabilitation Hospital in support of the goals and mission of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Hiring, training, developing, and communicating with staff.

Financial Management

  • Responsible for developing, monitoring and achieving budget goals.

  • Manages labor and non-labor expenses to budget or flex budget.

  • Manages revenue to budget to maximize potential revenue.

EPE/Service

  • Responsible for patient satisfaction scores within assigned area(s).

  • Responsible for upholding PROMISE standards of direct reports and team members.

Quality

  • Responsible to achieve quality goals for assigned area(s).

  • Manages and promotes continuous process improvements in assigned area(s).

Performance Management

  • Responsible to provide staff feedback on performance, including on-time appraisals and coaching.

  • Responsible to deal with conflicts in a proactive manner and to reach resolution in a timely manner.

Building Relationships

  • Forms positive relationships with staff, peers, and senior leadership to support the mission, vision, values, and performance standards of the organization.

  • Actively engages staff with updates and news as well as involving staff in decisions and work teams. Provides feedback and recognition when appropriate.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined above.

  • Ability to determine the appropriate staff mixes to support patient and customer needs.

  • Knowledge of hospital business operations and demonstrated strategic planning skills.

  • Knowledge of budgeting practices, reporting analysis and forecasting.

Qualifications

Qualifications Required

  • Five years of progressive management experience.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.

Licenses Required

  • Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Utah, or obtain one within 90 days of hire under the interstate compact if switching residency to State of Utah. Must maintain current Interstate Compact (multi-state) license if residency is not being changed to Utah.

  • Additional license requirements as determined by the hiring department._**

  • Master's degree in Nursing, Health Care Administration, Business Administration or a related area.

  • CRRN certification.

  • 5+ years of leadership experience in an inpatient medical rehabilitation setting.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

Employee must be able to meet the following requirements with or without an accommodation.
