Job Summary

The NP/APRNrole provides comprehensive sleep medicine services at the University Health Sciences Sleep Wake Clinic.

Responsibilities

1. Takes complex medical histories on patients referred for consultation by academic and community physicians.

2. Performs physical examinations.

3. Orders laboratory tests, x-rays, special imaging studies and other pulmonary diagnostic procedures including polysomnography, pulmonary function tests, arterial blood gases.

4. May interpret polysomnographs and other sleep medicine procedures.

5. Reaches diagnosis of sleep disorders.

6. Develops treatment plans to provide optimal patient and medical management.

7. Participates in continuing medical education to include specialty and sub-specialty meetings, clubs, boards and conferences.

8. Assists in the collection of data for research projects.

9. Orders consultations and interacts with members of other specialty medical teams.

10. Participates in special projects and committee functions.

Minimum Qualifications

Licensure to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Utah. Nationally certified as a Nurse Practitioner as required under State Law. Certification inACLS/BLS/NRP/ATLSmay be required by your department or by privileging criteria. Demonstrated clinical competence and in-depth knowledge of specialty area; and demonstrated leadership, teaching, research and communication skills are required.

Utah State prescriptive privileges preferred.

Licensure is obtained by completing a Master’s degree in Nursing or equivalency (the only equivalency to the Master’s degree is current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner) and a National Certification which requires the successful completion of a nationally accredited examination.UHPPM1-56 requires that newly hired non-physician providers apply for credentialing and privileging at the time of hire.
