University of Utah Health Network Engineer III (Firewall) in SALT LAKE CITY, Utah

Top candidates will have a Firewall Engineering background. The incumbent is responsible for the design, deployment, maintenance and support of the computer networks, telecommunications networks and related security devices. This position has no responsibility for providing care to patients.

  • Performs evaluation of existing building network wired and wirelessnetworks. Performs tasks associated with the engineering of networksystems used in data communications services, including fiber optic, IPsystems, switches, routers andLAN/WANSystems.

  • Collaborates with other team members and groups to identify and developscalable network designs, solutions and policy recommendations.

  • Ensures continued smooth operations of the global network infrastructure

  • Supports internal application groups by identifying and presenting theirnetwork-impacting requirements to the rest of the network engineeringteam.

  • Supports and leads implementation of growing network infrastructure.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Advanced knowledge and experience required in Cisco routing, routing protocols, switching, ASA/PIX Firewall, Palo Alto and Juniper firewalls.

  • Managed firewall – expertise with all aspects of firewall and VPN (IPSec and SSL) technology desired. Knowledge on one or multiple platforms (Fortinet, Check Point, Palo Alto, and Juniper) is desired. Architectural expertise desired but not limited to the areas of stateful packet inspection, address translation, denial of service, URL filtering, content inspection, content reporting, configuration and change management.

  • Advanced knowledge of computer security and networking. familiar with the underlying theories and ability to diagnose issues, build infrastructure, and work with related hardware and software.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to successfully work with highly skilled Information Security Office personnel.

  • Thorough knowledge of best practices in program and projectmanagement.

  • Familiarity with IT systems, protocols, and implementation efforts in largeorganizations.

  • Self-starter that understands the meaning of facilitated collaboration bothwithin and outside an organization.

  • Strong coordination and organization skills essential.

  • Ability to work under pressure and time constraints and to visualizeprocesses end-to-end.

  • Ability to present information effectively to campus leaders and diversegroups, including IT governance, for both background and decision-makingpurposes.

  • Understands how to champion IT strategy and a cohesive vision, includingexcellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Proven leadership with a genuine commitment to staff mentoring andprofessional development.

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.

  • Expertise in LAN/WAN technologies or protocols, including but not limitedto wired/wireless LAN environments, data center networking,intranet/extranet environments, IP/MPLS, OSPF, EGIRP, IP Multicast (PIM,MBGP) and Quality of Service.

  • Experience with networking products such as routers, switches, loadbalancers, firewalls, NAC, and WAN optimization products.

  • Knowledge of vendors such as Cisco, Juniper, Palo Alto, HP, Citrix, etc.

  • Experience managing projects towards timely completion and underbudget.

  • Experience with Python.

Qualifications Required

  • Bachelor's Degree in technical discipline such as Electrical Engineer, Computer Science, Information Technology, Systems or Software Engineering or equivalent.

  • Three years industry experience in a similar environment.

Qualifications (Preferred)

  • Experience with Palo Alto, Checkpoint, CiscoASA/PIXand/or Juniper firewalls.

  • Exposure to requirements for regulatory compliance, includingHIPAA,FERPA,PCI, andFISMA.

  • Understanding of and experience with open-source/community-sourcesoftware models.

  • Experience leading successful IT projects in a research university and/oracademic health care system.

  • Familiar with technology trends in networking. Examples include but arenot limited to software defined networking (SDN), OpenFlow, IPv6implementations, etc. Type Benefited Staff

  • Experience with network automation platforms and tools.
