The Medical Support Specialist provides customer service and support to patients who are referred to the University Developmental Assessment Center (UDAC), facilitating efficient delivery of patient care. TheUDACis part of the Department of Pediatrics and provides developmental assessments and diagnosis to children at risk for developmental complications. The Medical Support Specialist completes patient registrations, schedules patient appointments, makes reminder calls, and arrives patients. Under supervision of the health care professional, obtains vitals and growth measurement information, prepares paperwork for patient visits, and prepares assigned patient examination rooms ensuring the room is appropriately stocked. Works closely with theUDACteam to ensure that patients receive continuity and quality service and care by providing an exceptional patient experience. Clinics are held in Salt Lake City and Provo.
1.Completes patient registration process by reviewing accounts and other compliance-related documents for completeness and accuracy. Obtains missing information required for completion of the registration process.
2.Enters corrected and/or new patient data intoEPIC.
3.Notifies patients and their families of co-pays, deductibles, and co-insurance as appropriate and collects co-payments.
4.Obtains patient weight, height/length, head circumference, and blood pressure under the supervision of the health care professional. Prepares paperwork for patient visit.
5.Schedules patient appointments and contacts patients for rescheduling, missed appointments and appointment reminders.
6.Answers telephones and performs other receptionist duties such as sorting and distributing mail.
7.Prepares and cleans assigned patient examination rooms, ensuring rooms are appropriately stocked and that the equipment is operational.
8.May provide educational material and general health information to patients and family members as directed by healthcare provider.
9.May assist with transportation of patients to ancillary departments or inpatient units.
10.Performs other related duties as assigned.

One year of continuous office experience or equivalency; basic computer skills; and successful completion of a medical terminology course provided by the hospital within the first year of employment required. Demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills are also required.
Experience withICD-9 andCPT4 coding may be preferred.
One year experience in patient registration, admitting or related work may be preferred.

Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.
•One year experience in patient registration and/or scheduling and demonstrated proficiency in computer programs, such as EpicCare or other electronic medical record systems.
•Two years of experience in an outpatient, pediatric or primary care clinic.
•Fluency in Spanish
•Effective time management skills and ability to multi-task
