Job Summary

Part time role as a medical assistant to a busy Pediatric Surgery office/clinic located at both Primary Children’s Hospital and Riverton. If hired you may have to rotate out to the Riverton location on Mondays and Fridays.

This position integrates medical assistant knowledge with computer science and information systems for health care providers using the electronic medical records.

Responsibilities

Job duties include but are not limited to: interacting with patients, performing both clinical and administrative tasks such as taking vital signs, answering phones, scheduling appointments, helping doctors, coworkers and patients have an exceptional experience. Must have very strong multi-tasking skills.

Other duties may include but limited too:

1. Performs as the principal super-user of clinic’s electronic medical records which includes providing support and training for staff and providers and attending ongoing trainings and updates as available.

2. Facilitates improvement projects within the clinic annually in coordination with the clinic care team.

3. Advocates for efficient clinic work flow which may include patient or visit flow coordination, daily schedule review, huddle lead, or pre visit planning.

4. Serves as a primary preceptor for new staff.

5. Provides ongoing support and mentoring for all clinical staff.

6. May coordinate care for specific patient populations.

7. May participate in documenting compliance audits as designated.

8. May coordinate referrals and obtain pre-authorization from insurance companies for procedures and treatments.

9. May complete patient registration, assists patient with co-pays and account balances, and reconcile daily cash reports.

10. May perform other administrative duties, projects, and committee assignments as assigned.

11. Attends and completes mandatory inservices including infection control, safety,CPR, equipment usage and procedures according to hospital and department policies.

12. Prepares patients for examinations and diagnostic procedures according to clinic procedures such as recording temperatures, pulse rate, blood pressure and responses to standardized medical history questions.

13. Reports all observed patient concerns and changes in condition to a licensed staff member.

14. Performs additional skills such as suture removal, straight catheterization and injections (IM, Subq and intra-dermal).

15. Acts as a chaperone for health care providers during patient examination as requested and assists with procedures.

16. Monitors and cleans assigned patient examination rooms, unit areas and unit equipment reporting outdated supplies, stock levels and restock set levels of items and necessary equipment repairs.

17. Answers telephones, forwards telephone messages and schedules appointments, procedures and diagnostic tests.

18. Assists in routine clerical functions such as filing of medical information in patient’s records, locating and compiling department charts, obtaining medical records from other providers and entering charges for billing purposes.

19. May perform other duties based on department assigned.

20. Acts as a chaperone for health care providers during patient examination and assists with procedures, ensuring that the Electronic Medical Record is efficiently and accurately being used.

21. May assist patient and family education by providing educational material and general health information using the Electronic Medical Record.

22. Performs administrative clinic duties to ensure that health care providers are following the hospital policies and procedure.

23. Translates and communicates clinical needs to information technology staff and works to develop appropriate solutions.

24. Conducts quality assurance testing prior to solution deployment to ensure functionality is working as designed.

25. Provides support to outpatient clinicians during training, go live and after go live to ensure utilization of the solution is correct.

Minimum Qualifications

Completion of a certified Medical Assistant program or current certification as anEMT- Intermediate in the state of Utah is required. Basic Life Support Health Care Provider card or obtain one within one month of hire; demonstrated phlebotomy skills and demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills also required. Demonstrated proficiency in the specific clinic’s specialty skills within six weeks of hire is required. Specialty skills may not be performed until after the new hire completes competency testing.

Hiring department may prefer Medical Assistant Certification or Registration.

Preferences

Pediatric Surgery is seeking someone with a positive attitude, good work ethic, willing to learn new things, ability to multi-task and with strong computer skills. Experience working with patients, medical charting experience and Meaningful Use knowledge.

Speaks fluent Spanish

Certified as a Medical Spanish Interpreter
