Job Summary

University Information Technology seeks a communications professional to assist with internal and external communications for a variety of purposes, audiences, and platforms.

University Information Technology (UIT), the central IT service provider for campus, reports to the Chief Information Officer and is responsible for many of the University of Utah’s most critical common IT resources including the campus network; the Campus Information Services (CIS) portal; UMail, telephone, and online collaboration services; high performance and research computing; information security; teaching and learning technologies; software licensing; and a host of other systems and applications. Responsibilities

UIT’s Strategic Communication group, which reports to the Chief Information Officer, seeks a bright and talented communications specialist.

•News and information, technical, business, feature article, and marketing/PR writing, and other content creation. Channels includeUITwebsites, service catalog and knowledge base, email newsletters, social media, reports, training materials, e-bulletin board, presentations, and other media. Scope includes internal and external communications.

•DigitalSLRphotography and graphic design. Create, edit, and enhance photos, images and infographics using standard design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva, Piktochart, OmniGraffle).

•Collaborate closely with technical and leadership teams to plan, implement, and evaluate communication campaigns.

•Use OmniUpdate Campus to create and maintain webpages.

•Use email marketing platform tools (e.g., Emma) to create and distribute campaigns.

•Work on several projects and operational tasks simultaneously.

•Rapidly adjust focus when communication priorities for the organization change.

•Track, assess, and report outcomes of communication campaigns using analytics tools (e.g., Google, Twitter, and email platform analytics). Organize and interpret analytics for reports. Implement data-driven improvements in future campaigns.

•Plan and manageUITevents including focus groups, online “town hall” events, small- to large-scale meetings, andUITemployee events and parties.

•Survey creation, management, and reporting using common survey platforms (e.g., Qualtrics).

•Manage organizational chart updates.

•RepresentUITand the University of Utah with the highest caliber of professionalism and courtesy.

•Other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree English, Journalism, Communications, or related field plus 3 years of related experience, or equivalency; excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills; familiarity with a variety of computer software; project management and strong interpersonal skills; ability to work both individually and in a team setting.

Master’s degree in a related field may be preferred.

Department Specific Qualifications:

•Bachelor’s degree in communication, English, marketing, public relations, journalism, advertising, internet studies, or other related field.

•Minimum of three years’ experience writing professionally. Writing samples required, e.g., technical documentation, feature story, professional website, blog, social media.

•Excellent written communication skills (grammar, spelling, punctuation, appropriate tone, clarity, etc.).

•Ability to adapt writing style for a variety of audiences, purposes, and platforms.

•Demonstrated photography and graphic design experience, including creating and editing photos, images and infographics using standard graphics software (e.g., Adobe Creative Cloud). Work samples may be required.

•Ability to communicate professionally using social media platforms (e.g., Twitter, Reddit, online community management).

•Ability to perform IT- and communication-related research and analysis.

•Ability to communicate about IT topics with non-technical and technical audiences.

•Familiarity with standard IT terminology.

•Experience writing clear instructional/help information.

•Experience in basic web design principles, basicHTML,SEOstrategies, and web content management systems (e.g., OmniUpdate Campus).

•High level of proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and other standard business applications.

•Excellent interpersonal and interviewing skills.

•Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
