Job Summary

Under minimal supervision, responsible for planning, organizing, directing and/or controlling all aspects pertaining to a sizable specific programs and special events sponsored by the Alumni Association to promote continued involvement and support of University alumni chapters, clubs and students.

Acts as a catalyst between the department and its alumni and staff to ensure continuity and quality of service and care.


1.Engages in active development of a strong volunteer base to aid in the coordination of an active alumni base. Provides support for the Alumni Association that includes the recruitment of new volunteers, defining responsibilities, creating job descriptions, planning meetings, and enhancing the visibility of the Alumni Association. Ensures an appropriate volunteer base.

2.Manages, strengthens and oversees the daily operations local, national and international alumni chapters and clubs.

3.Markets and promotes new and existing programs and services to alumni and community.

4.Organizes events and activities to enhance the prominence and positive profile of the University in the alumni community. Work with other Advancement staff to ensure that the University/Alumni Association is represented at appropriate celebrations, ceremonies, and events.

5.Maintains regular contact with all College Departments and works closely with campus groups, alumni groups and volunteers, and the Alumni Association in planning and implementing activities, service and programs of interest. Engages faculty and departments in identifying and connecting with alumni.

6.Remains current in alumni program/service trends; researches and recommends new programs, on and off-campus, to engage alumni in the mission and vision of the university.

Extensive travel is required.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related area or equivalency (2 years related work experience may be substituted for 1 year of education). Four to six years of progressively more responsible management experience. Background knowledge of hiring department’s area of specialization in order to analyze, plan and draw conclusions for recommendations to superiors. Demonstrated leadership skills in planning and directing employees and processes in order to effectively monitor and develop subordinates and to ensure the smooth operation of department. Completion of provided supervisory training within one year of employment may be required. Master’s degree in a related area may be preferred.
