Job Summary

Under minimal supervision, responsible for planning, organizing, directing and/or controlling all aspects pertaining to laboratory functions of assigned department’s internal and external customer service, human resource and financial management operations pertaining to areas including (but not limited to) specimen maintenance, data collection, process management, standard operating procedure development and adherence, and outcomes monitoring. Acts as a catalyst between the department and its customers and staff to ensure continuity and quality of service and care.

Develops and implements prototyping laboratory policies, standard operating procedures, and capabilities. Duties shall include day to day management of the laboratory including: project design and development activities, hands-on prototyping, testing, calibration, maintenance, managing/training laboratory fellows, and teaching.

Responsibilities

Teach/train/manage laboratory fellows and lab patrons and develop/teach laboratory courses.

Create new lab capabilities and manage supply/material inventories as well as equipment procurement.

Support various educational and incubator programs of theCMI.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in a related area of assignment or equivalency and 4 – 6 years of progressively more responsible management experience. Background knowledge of assigned department’s area of specialization in order to analyze, plan and draw conclusions for recommendations to superiors. Demonstrated leadership skills in planning and directing employees and processes in order to effectively monitor and develop subordinates and to ensure the smooth operation of department. Completion of provided supervisory training within one year of employment may be required.

Master’s degree in a related area may be preferred.

Preferred Experience:

  • ISO9001 orISO13485 experience
  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing and/or product design and development.
  • CO2 laser cutter/engraver
  • General shop equipment (bandsaw, drill press, grinders, sanders, handtools, etc).
  • CNCLather and Mill
  • CAD/CAMsoftware
  • 3D Printers (SLA,SLS,FDM, etc.)
  • Injection molding and casting
