Job Summary

The Research Administration Department at Huntsman Cancer Institute works directly with researchers and are essential to their success. Members of our team perform a diverse set of tasks at a challenging and rewarding tempo in a nationally recognized NCI Designated Comprehensive Cancer Center. This role manages a team of administrators, primarily administrative assistants, that support the principal investigators and their labs at Huntsman Cancer Institute. They will mentor and provide support to the team so they can provide exceptional support to the faculty. A competitive candidate will have a broad knowledge of pre- and post-award grant support, university purchasing and financial systems, distributions, CV’s, NIH biosketches, NIH other support, travel, human resources, event coordination, annual budgets, plus excellent communication and demonstrated teaching/mentoring.

  • Hire and train the administrative assistants (AA) for Basic, Population Sciences and other peripheral AA roles within Research Administration
  • Training includes but is not limited to pre- and post-award grant support, university purchasing and financial systems, calendaring, salary distributions, CV’s/biosketches, travel, human resources, event coordination and annual budgets
  • Provide monthly one-on-one training, feedback and professional development within Basic Science AA team
  • Lead bi-weekly Administrative Support Team meeting to train and address trends with broader administrative team
  • Conduct semi-annual survey to the faculty and other departments to ensure competency of staff and determine departmental training needs. Develop and present educational programs and training as needed. Mentors, coaches and oversees ongoing staff performance management.
  • Provide support for and assist with new faculty onboarding
  • Assess workload of team through a series of metrics
  • May be assigned a component of the Cancer Center Support Grant
  • Budget personnel and non-personnel costs for annual fiscal year budgets
  • Remains current on university and research administration advancements
