Under minimal supervision, responsible for planning, organizing, directing and/or controlling all aspects pertaining to clinical research functions of assigned department’s internal and external customer service, human resource and financial management operations pertaining to areas including (but not limited to) clinical data, standardization, statistical analysis, monitoring clinical trials, and development and completion of clinical studies. Acts as a catalyst between the department and its customers and staff to ensure continuity and quality of service and care.
1. Interprets sponsor and University research administration regulations and requirements for faculty and staff, with provision of ongoing compliance guidance and training.
2. Support Principal Investigators with protocol development, implementation and ongoing management.
3. Supervises, manages and trains (initial and ongoing) Research Administration staff. Develop educational tools for investigators and research staff.
4. Develop, implement and enforce Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s).
5. Serves as a liaison with other departments and research administration units.
6. Works closely with department leadership to establish unit priorities and provide progress reports on research activity within the department.
7. Ensures sponsor and faculty satisfaction by analyzing complaints, concerns and suggestions and providing appropriate follow-through.

Bachelor’s degree in a related area or equivalency (2 years related work experience may be substituted for 1 year of education). Four to six years of progressively more responsible management experience. Background knowledge of hiring department’s area of specialization in order to analyze, plan and draw conclusions for recommendations to superiors. Demonstrated leadership skills in planning and directing employees and processes in order to effectively monitor and develop subordinates and to ensure the smooth operation of department. Master’s degree in a related area may be preferred.
