This position fills exchange carts and basket orders with clean linen items and delivers to hospital and campus locations. The incumbent provides assistance to other linen production areas as needed and visits hospital and off-site facilities using a University-owned vehicle to determine the types and how much linen is needed on the unit. This position is not responsible for providing patient care.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.

  • Performs a linen inventory using an electronic device and prepares orders according to a predetermined par level.

  • Fills exchange carts and delivery carts with clean linen as determined by the inventory.

  • Delivers clean linen to various hospital locations and off-site facilities following a predetermined route.

  • Removes linen items from vendor’s delivery carts and places them into linen carts, shelves or closets.

  • Inventories, weighs and records linen using automated equipment.

  • Completes paperwork used to bill non-hospital departments' use of linen.

  • Responds to service calls by assembling and delivering orders in a timely manner.

  • May assist in the production areas by counting, sorting, folding, wrapping, stacking, loading washers and removing linen from dryers.

  • Participates in education programs and in-service meetings.

  • Performs linen room housekeeping functions to ensure linen room cleanliness.

  • Assists and supports other departments when needed.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Must be able to read, write and understand English language, perform basic mathematical calculations and follow instructions.

  • Must be able to demonstrate manual dexterity, count linens and maintain accurate records.

  • Must be able to move heavy linen carts constantly throughout the workday in a safe and efficient manner.

  • Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills with coworkers and hospital staff.

  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined above.

Employee must be able to meet the following requirements with or without an accommodation.

  • This position involves intermediate working conditions in a healthcare setting that may exert up to 75 pounds and may consistently require light work involving lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling or otherwise moving objects which at times weigh in excess of 500 pounds. This position involves considerable standing, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, reaching and moderate lifting and may be exposed to chemical hazards. Incumbents must have the ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer) and the ability to match or detect differences between colors, including shades of color and brightness.
