Work Schedule Summary

Outreach Intern hours vary by week, but will usually be 10-15 hours/week at the start of each term, with hours dropping to 5-10 hours/week by the end of the semester. These hours may include some evening and weekend hours.

Known times that you will be expected to work increased hours include:

*Fall Learning Abroad Fair: late September/early October

*International Educaiton Week: mid-November

*Spring Enrollment Event (e.g., Program Preview Week): late January

Please note that Learning Abroad Outreach Interns:

*Must provide a minimum of 10 hours of availability per week at the start of each term and a minimum of 5 hours availability per week at the end of the semester

*Must log a minimum of 100 hours by the end of each term

*Are NOT required to work during finals, school breaks, or any days where class is not officially in session

DESCRIPTION

The Learning Abroad Outreach Intern position is an employment opportunity in Learning Abroad for students who have participated on OR are interested in participating on approved Learning Abroad programs . Learning Abroad Outreach Interns are primarily responsible for representing Learning Abroad and its opportunities across campus.

PRIMARY TASKS

*Presenting during classroom visits, tabling, postering across campus, delivering marketing materials across campus, collaborating with on-campus offices and student groups

*Being an active and engaged member of the Outreach Team, including the Outreach Assistant and Outreach Interns

*Working with Learning Abroad Coordinators on marketing initiatives

This position entails additional responsibilities that help support the mission and initiatives of Learning Abroad.

This position is considered Category IIA : Not required on campus and has the ability to telework remotely for the duration of the University of Utah’s response to COVID -19. An employee hired into this role will be responsible for providing space, telephone, printing, networking and/or internet capabilities at the telecommute location and agree to the terms of the University of Utah campus and Health Academics COVID -19 Telecommuting Agreement.

Responsibilities

OUTREACH INTERNS :

*Present to on-campus classes, new student and transfer orientation groups, residence halls, student groups, etc., to increase participation in Learning Abroad by all members of the University of Utah student community, including populations historically underrepresented in learning abroad

*Help with the preparation, promotion and facilitation of Learning Abroad’s Fall Fair and Spring Enrollment Events (e.g. Program Preview Week), as well as other outreach events for the Office of Admissions and other campus partners

*Work with Learning Abroad Coordinator on marketing initiatives

*Act as liaison to their specific Academic College and/or Department to help increase Learning Abroad student enrollment

*Promptly communicate with Learning Abroad staff and all affiliated faculty, staff, and students while ensuring excellent customer service and high degree of professionalism

*Help distribute print and electronic Learning Abroad materials, and assist with other outreach initiatives such as posting flyers around campus

*Attend and participate in weekly Outreach Team meetings

*Consistently practice a high level of attention to detail and superior organization skills to execute tasks

*Keep detailed and accurate written records of hours worked

*Assist Learning Abroad with its social media presence when necessary

*Assist with general tasks in the Learning Abroad office when necessary

The above are general responsibilities for Learning Abroad Outreach Interns. Actual duties may vary depending on individual interests, skills, and office needs.

Minimum Qualifications

*Maintain good standing and full-time status at the University of Utah

*Notify Learning Abroad if otherwise employed by any other office or department at the University of Utah

*Demonstrate a minimum availability (scheduling flexibility) of 15 hours per week

*Commit to two semesters (one academic year) of employment

Preferences

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

*Experience on an approved Learning Abroad program through the University of Utah( NOT required)

*Strong written and verbal communication skills

*Experience with and enthusiasm for public speaking

*Experience with and enthusiasm for student recruitment

*Experience working on a team

*Excellent time management and organizational skills

*Ability to respond to texts and emails quickly and regularly

*Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability to last-minute requests or schedule changes

*Demonstrated experience with teaching, mentorship, coaching, and/or leadership

*Experience with social media, particularly with Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube

*Enthusiasm for development of new skills and knowledge

Special Instructions Summary

We hope to hire three new Outreach Interns to start in August, 2021 before the start of the Fall 2021 semester. If you are currently abroad, we can conduct an interview over Skype.
